MEMORY DEX I CARDS FOR MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

hello may.

and mental health awareness month.

and my blush memory dex. cause you are just so awesome.

a topic of conversation that has really become so normalized over this past while, no thanks to the ongoing pandemic.  however the reality is (and has always been) mental health is such a huge part of our life, pandemic or not.  

regardless i am so happy that this conversation continues to happen.  our minds are so powerful.  they literally guide our every move, our every choice, our every thought.  keeping it healthy and doing everything we can in our power to do so is truly a game changer for our lives.

when it comes to mental health, i truly believe we are all more alike than different.

we are beings with deep feelings and thoughts.  behaviours and habits.  these all work together simultaneously making us who we are.  sometimes our mental health is great.  we feel at peace and motivated and overall happy with where we are.  other times, it is not.  i have always dealt with mental health ups and downs.  my whole life.  periods of anxiety, sadness.  anger, frustration.  becoming a mother 7 years ago has truly tested the waters of my mental health.  it has taken me down different roads, made me face new sets of feelings and challenges.  every day is a day where i am continuously working on my mental health.  it certainly does not take a day off.

so, in honour of mental health and this month (although mental health is a daily workout for sure) i created some new additions of cards for my blush memory dex spinner.  

using the newest heidi swapp paper collection, care free i designed visual reminders of some of my most favourite messages when it comes to mental health and celebrating it.  

all of it. 

the highs and the lows.  

because we truly would not have one without the other.

i love this one. be kind to your mind.

the stamping was done using these two sets.  i adore these alphas, and this flower set  is so beautiful too.  it is such a nice one to layer.

i really loved layering this card using care free tags, stickers, washi and ephemera.  simple layering can make some of the most visually interesting cards.  adding some added dimension with pop dots to adhere the embellishments is always a quick way i like to give my cards an added 'pop'.

and i love this last one.

the quote alone, "my tears watered my soul & gave me strength to bloom".  what a beautiful thought.  i used the same florals on this one, the other half of the tag i used in the previous card with some additonal stickers and stamping.  you will notice the 'remember' on this card is stamped multiple times in various levels of ink.  i think this is one of my favourite ways to create a subtle background and to maybe even fill up extra space i do not know what to do with.  

i adore the care free collection so much.  so many beautiful elements to bring my cards for mental health alive and come together.  i am happy i will have these reminders year round, but also in celebration and in honour of this very important month of awareness.

MEMORY DEX MUSINGS I DIY TAGS & CAREFREE

adding cards to my blush memory dex spinner is always my favourite way to channel into some creative energy.  it also is something extra special when i get to play with brand new paper releases and all the pretties.  and this collection i am sharing today, combined with the blush memory dex spinner is truly a match made in heaven.

when it comes to creating memory dex cards, i love to get creative and switch things up.  this time i thought it would be fun to create some cards except this time use die cut tags.  i love this change up and creating tags has always been such a therapeutic and fun way to just get creative for myself.

plus with all the stitching and layers, it really adds some gorgeous dimension into ones memory dex card collection.  i love all the texture.  it is one of my favourite ways to customize my cards.

if you have never incorporated machine stitching or sewing onto your cards, i highly recommend it.  i cannot sew anything to save my life but i can add stitching onto paper pretty successfully and it just makes me so happy.  trust me, you will love it!

these gorgeous pieces are all from the care free collection.  a mix of stickers, tags and pattern paper.  love love triple love.

if those butterflies look familiar, you've guessed it.  they are butterflies from one of my favourite current stamp sets found here.  mixing the solid stamp with the pattern stamp is a great way to maximize this set.  with all of the color combinations the options are endless.  this set is a must have. i embellished with some type text, and care free stickers.

MEMORY DEX I SOME FAVOURITE CARD CREATIONS

memory dex inspiration.

that is what today is all about.  i just adore adding to my beautiful blush heidi swapp memory dex spinner, it looks so pretty sitting on my workspace. and did you know that it is exclusive only to scrapbook.com? yep, this beautiful exclusive is only found there and it is stunning.
 

 

when it comes to creating my cards, i always just throw caution to the wind and let them take on a life of their own.  i never really have a plan when it comes to creating a new card...to be honest i think this process of creating is more of a therapeutic practice in the end anyway.  a place to experiment, play and be intentional with what i want each card to represent.

it also is a great way to experiment with new products.  like these new stamps from heidi swapp.  i loved adding and layering them to this card especially.  i even used minc reactive mist to add splatters to the edges and foiled with black.  this is a great example of how memory dex cards are a perfect place to practice with mixed media techniques!

 

 

memory dex cards are also a great way to showcase memorable or favourite photos.  this photo was taken of my family way back in march when all of the quarantine life began.  gosh it seems just like yesterday, yet SO long ago.  by layering and adding some tags and ephemera it creates a perfect base to situate my photo on top.  

and last but not least is always one of my favourite ways to create.  simple stamping of a powerful message or phrase with a favourite alpha stamp set.  this one has been a number one of mine since its release and it really is one of the best.  i use it all of the time, and its versatility is second to none.  i love using it with all sorts of different ink colours.  when i created this card i had fun using 2 shades of pink and stamped on top of each other.  it gave a beautiful ombre shadow effect and it is the perfect look for this card.

i love having them all displayed in my spinner.  adding to this spinner as i can is just ending up to be such a beautiful collection and reflection of where my heart, mind and soul has lived this past little while.  it truly is a powerful walk down this memory lane.

MEMORY DEX I STORYLINE STYLE

one of my favourite ways to spark creativity is to play with my memory dex.

no rules, just lots of inspiration and experimentation.

playing with collections, sifting through my ephemera jars...adding in uplifting quotes and valuable reminders.

there is just so much about the memory dex system to love.

and speaking of love. let's talk heidi swapp storyline chapters.

probably one of my biggest obsessions right now.

such an insanely gorgeous collection, creating these cards to add to my spinner was just what my heart and soul needed.

last week on the blog i used postcards from the art walk collection to create diy cards, but this time i thought to use the storyline chapters postcards and add them into my memory dex spinner.

using the memory dex dies i was able to easily transform them into perfectly sized memory dex cards.

i just love the "blues" in this one.

this card is probably one of my most favourites as it always makes me want to smile.  deep breaths right?! i also loved using elements from heidi swapp's stop the blur online planner class printable to this one.

MEMORY DEX DIES & COLOR FRESH CARD SET

today i want to share a fun and creative way to create memory dex cards from boxed cards!

yes! did you know that these heidi swapp color fresh boxed cards are the perfect size cards to use with the memory dex dies?

this means that not only can one use these cards for traditional card making, but you can also transform and customize them so that you can now add them into your memory dex spinner and trays.

as you can see, these dies fit perfectly onto the cards making them a great option for memory dex card making.

as with any die cutting machine, the process is the same.  just lay the die on top of your paper and run it through your machine.

each die set has 2 different styles, so there are 4 fun card shapes available when using the dies and the cards.  they are such a great investment because you can essentially create amazing perfectly cut memory dex cards out of your paper stashes forever and ever.

here are a few of the card additions i created to add to my spinner, using my die sets, my color fresh card stash and additional color fresh embellishments.

now more than ever do i need visual uplifting reminders and memory dex's are just the perfect way to do that!

i hope this technique has inspired you to try making your own memory dex cards using these dies and card sets that you may already have on hand, or are wanting to purchase.  it is a really fun and easy way to add to ones memory dex collection :) .

MEMORY DEX I ALL HEART BY CRATE PAPER

i love playing with all the different paper collections that get released.

there are so many beautiful patterns and designs to play with.

i remember seeing this particular collection released back in january 2019 at creativation and literally gasping out loud.

i have always been a lover of anything crate paper and this collection entitled "all heart" seriously took my breath away.  it is SO unique, so trendy, so fun...romantic and grunge.  the whole concept behind the art and design of this release is truly fabulous.  when i finally got my hands on the product i could not wait to play!

first creative project up....my heidi swapp memory dex!

i love my heidi swapp memory dex cards and spinner.  

it is really such an amazing way to spend time inspiring yourself and creating such gorgeous cards that result in beautiful collections of art.

most of the time if i feel like i am in need of a 'creative uplift' i will create a few memory dex cards.  i always find that when i do that it is just the creative push i need to get myself going on other projects where i feel creatively blocked.

watch my video below to see just how easy it is to create custom memory dex cards using the heidi swapp memory dex dies and patterned paper.  i used the all heart 6x8 paper pad in the video.  creating memory dex cards is also an amazing way to use up scrap papers and stash.  a little truly goes a long way when designing and putting together your memory dex.

as you can see it is super easy to use the dies.  just run them through your die cut machine on top of your favourite paper and then voila!  perfect cut and sized cards for your spinner.  add your favourite embellishments, photos, stickers and more.  i love using my we r memory keepers typecast to incorporate sentiments and quotes onto my cards.  to do this you could either type on your paper before or after you run it through your die cut machine.  the choice is totally up to you.

i love how each card encompasses a different personality.  holds a different sentiment, message or memory.  just flipping through my memory dex brings me so much joy and creative uplift.  and it sure looks beautiful sitting on my desk.
